Markham Whole Home Interior Design Project Before any renovation work begins, thoughtful planning is what transforms a house into a functional and beautiful home. For this Markham whole home renovation project, our interior design team developed a complete design package covering every major living space throughout the property. The goal was to create a warm, modern, and highly functional home that supports everyday family life while maintaining a timeless aesthetic. The design concept combines soft neutral tones, natural wood textures, custom millwork, and carefully planned lighting to create a cohesive look throughout the home. Open Concept Main Floor Design One of the key objectives was to improve the flow between the kitchen, dining area, and living room. The new open-concept layout creates a more connected environment where family members can cook, dine, entertain, and relax without feeling separated by walls or narrow spaces. A large custom kitchen island serves as the centerpiece of the main floor, providing additional preparation space, seating, and storage. Full-height cabinetry, integrated appliances, and custom shelving maximize both functionality and visual appeal. Natural wood finishes were paired with warm white cabinetry to create a bright and welcoming atmosphere while maintaining a clean contemporary appearance. Home Theatre and Entertainment Space A dedicated home theatre room was incorporated into the design to provide a comfortable entertainment space for family movie nights and gatherings. The design utilizes darker wall finishes, integrated lighting, and a large projection screen to create an immersive viewing experience while maintaining a refined residential aesthetic. Laundry and Utility Areas Even the utility spaces received careful design consideration. The laundry room was designed with custom cabinetry, countertop workspace, integrated storage, and efficient workflow planning to improve daily household functionality. This Markham whole home renovation is one of our recent large-scale residential transformation projects completed in the Greater Toronto Area. The homeowners wanted to modernize the entire main and second floor while creating a brighter, more functional layout that better suited their family's lifestyle. Their vision was to transform an older compartmentalized home into a contemporary open-concept living space with improved flow, increased natural light, and upgraded finishes throughout. To achieve this goal, our team removed two load-bearing walls on the main floor and completed the required structural reinforcement. For the interior design direction, we selected a timeless combination of natural wood tones and crisp white cabinetry. Like many older homes in Toronto, the property faced major challenges, including inefficient layout, outdated systems, and a basement with limited ceiling height and poor accessibility — making it unsuitable for rental use. Based on our experience with old home renovations in Toronto, we approached this project with a focus on structural upgrades, system redesign, and long-term investment value. The basement underwent full underpinning and foundation reinforcement to increase ceiling height and meet legal requirements. We redesigned the entire layout to create three self-contained units, each with functional living space, proper ventilation, and efficient heating and cooling systems. Electrical and plumbing systems were fully upgraded to comply with current building codes.
