Toronto Interior Renovation | Markham Basement Design & Build Today we’re sharing a 900 sq.ft. basement renovation project in Markham, designed and built for everyday living and entertainment. Client requirements: An open-concept layout with clearly defined zones, including a home gym, multi-purpose activity area, and a media / entertainment space. The overall layout plan can be referenced in Image 9. Design concept The key design focus of this project lies in color coordination and material balance. The basement features a warm and modern palette built around wood textures, green accent tones, and gold hardware details, creating a space that feels both cozy and visually refined. Media area highlight While the media zone is not designed as a high-end professional home theatre, it is fully functional and comfortable, using a standard projector setup. To enhance visual impact, the designer incorporated wood accent panels on both sides of the projection screen, combined with integrated backlighting and wall sconces, making the media area a natural focal point of the basement.
